Family Portrait Session | Ambleside Park

I don’t normally blog about photo shoots that aren’t engagement sessions or weddings, but I just had to for this one! I haven’t done too many family portrait sessions in my career, but out of all the ones I have done this has been one of my favorite thus far! Not only was everyone as easy as pie to work with, they were very open-minded and willing to try out my crazy ideas! Our photo shoot took place at the beautiful Ambleside Park. It was my first time visiting the place, but it definitely won’t be my last.

Patience and Persistence lies at the heart of this couple’s story. Conrad and Christine met for the first time in high school, where they remained friends well into their undergrad years at UBC. It was during this time and a ski trip later that Conrad started having butterflies for Christine. Things however didn’t go for him as planned, at least not in the beginning. The first time Conrad asked Christine out, her answer was “Hmm, let me think about it”, followed by a no later that night. Conrad however was not daunted, and accepted her invitation to spend more time with her as friends. After a couple months of hanging out and getting to know one another, Conrad asked where they were in their friendship/relationship, upon which Christine answered “we’re just friends”. Two months later, after a discussion with her friends (who all thought Conrad was a great guy!), Christine realized that what held her back was a fear of commitment, something that many of us can relate to. Determined to not let fear take over, Christine told herself that she would accept if Conrad persisted to ask her out one more time. Then one night, a poem and a heart to heart talk later, he won her heart at last!

Conrad and Christine, I’m glad you two found love in one another and that you’ve journeyed together as long and far as you have. As a male, I have to say Conrad that your persistence serves as an inspiration to me! Looking forward to your wedding!!

Cheers,

Raymond

Juelu and Sheng found us through friends who’ve we’ve taken photos for in the past. My first impression of them when I met them was that I found them to be a super sweet and fun-loving couple. Their story began 3 years ago when they both enrolled in the same GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) class and met for the first time. Sheng made the first move by suggesting a trip to the book store for course materials and a dinner date to follow. After countless trips to the library together and finding comfort in each other’s presence from the stress of examinations, they became an item. Their academic careers continued to play a role in bringing them closer together as they were both admitted into their respective graduate programs at UBC where they are currently working hard at earning their degrees.

One of Sheng’s qualities that made a big impression on Juelu is his honest and sincere nature (not to mention his happy and glowing smile!) For Sheng, aside from her obvious beauty, it was Juelu’s warm personality, frank demeanour, and countless other qualities that really made her special. Having spent a decent amount of time with these two, I can attest for all of the above.

Juelu and Sheng, I’m glad you two have found another another and I wish them all the best in the years to come! Thanks again for the incredibly fun pre-wedding season and have a beautiful marriage in China this Spring!

- Raymond
