We recently had the honor of photographing another surprise proposal on the stage of the beautiful Chan Centre at UBC. Steven, who had found out about us through Vancity Bride, reached out to us about a month prior telling us about his plan to propose to Agnes. The reason he chose the Chan Centre as the setting to this milestone is because Agnes devoted 14 years of her life as an employee there, thus it has a special place in her heart. On the day of the proposal, there was a musical performance at the Chan Centre that Steven and Agnes went to. After it was over, Steven told Agnes that he “accidentally” left one of his credit cards behind, providing the excuse to return to the Chan Centre later on when nobody was around. While there, he had asked the venue coordinator, who was in on the surprise, for permission to walk onto the stage with Agnes, just to “enjoy the view”.

Steven was so nervous the entire time that he was shaking, but luckily for him Agnes wasn’t aware of the surprise. We were hiding backstage, a bit nervous ourselves, as all of this was unfolding. Steven guided Agnes by the hand to center stage, got on one knee, and the rest as they say was history.

Recently we had the huge pleasure of taking headshot photos of Jeannine, the owner of the award winning wedding blog Vancity Bride, who has been a friend of ours since 2011 when we were first featured on her blog. Not wanting just any typical headshot, Jeannine went all out and got a whole crew of amazing vendors involved, which included hair + makeup, custom jewellery, and a fabulous shooting location courtesy of the Pop Up Wedding Shoppe.

If you’re a newly engaged bride or groom and haven’t heard of Vancity Bride before, do yourself a HUGE favor and check it out because it’ll be hands down the most useful resource you’ll find in planning your Vancouver wedding! www.vancitybride.com

One of my goals at Vivid Moments this year is to feature a lot more portrait sessions. As much as I love weddings, portraiture has and will always be dear to my heart. With that said, I introduce to you Sahar and her super adorable dog Nelly. Sahar is a friend I’ve gotten to know over the past year and who happens to be one of two main faces behind Modern Mint Events, a rising star wedding event company.

For our photo shoot, we took a stroll around Granville Island where we were greeted by the warm sun, a blessing not too often seen on a winter January day in Vancouver. Nelly quickly became the center of attention as soon as the camera started clicking, and she would continue to hog the spotlight until near the end where Sahar and I got some one on one time.

I never owned a pet before, nor am I allowed to where I live. Though if I had the choice, it would definitely be a dog. The way I saw Sahar and Nelly interact was almost like watching a mother playing with her child. Kind of funny considering that as recent as 2012, I was still scared of dogs due to being chased by a few of them as a kid. What changed for me was back in early 2013 when I held my friend’s puppy in my arms, whereupon she smiled those adorable puppy dog eyes back into mine. I’m happy to saw that I’ve learned to love dogs ever since 🙂

Cheers,
Raymond

Time for something a little different! Although engagement and sessions and weddings are what we’re known for, we absolutely love taking family portraits. Take this recent one at Ambleside Park for example, we had so much fun with this family of six that we didn’t want it to end. Everyone laughed and smiley so naturally in front of the camera that you would have thought they were a family of models. We had a fantastic time and are definitely looking forward to our next one. Cheers!

Get ready for something a little bit more bold and daring! Jenn and Stephen are both friends of mine who are involved with the fashion industry, and so for fun we decided to do a fashion themed photo shoot in an industrialized area, or “concrete jungle” as Jenn put it. This session was unique in that all the photos were taken after sunset (usually we take some during the day beforehand), and we added more drama and edge with flash photography. Definitely had a lot of fun with this one even though it was short and sweet!

We’re excited to feature images from our first ever Trash the Dress session! After their wedding was over, Janice toyed with the idea of trashing her wedding dress in a photo shoot as a way of symbolically stating her wedding dress or any wedding dress period will never be worn again. We traveled down to Whytecliffe Park in West Vancouver to start off and finished at Ambleside Beach. Despite the fact that there was wind, rain, and even a thunderstorm taking place (thank you weather network for saying it would be sunny an hour before our session), these two braved it without a problem!
